      <image:title>Bios - Alo Greening - May 2026 Cohort</image:title>
<image:caption>Hello and bonjour! My name is Alo (they/he) and I'm a counselling intern at Couch of Hope, as well as a Masters of Counselling Psychology student. I am a neurodiverse and queer friend, sibling, neighbour, and fiancé. In my spare time, I love to read romance novels, watch horror movies, listen to various genres of music, learn about new topics and try new crafting hobbies. Additionally, I am bilingual, fluent in both French and English. I hold a Masters of Gender and Sexuality, and studied psychology and sociology at Saint Mary's University. I have published works on eating disorders, fat liberation, gender, and queer experiences. I have spent my life working in health fields, from hospital volunteering to student disability advocate. I work from a trauma-informed framework and a social justice orientation, recognizing the influence of oppression, social norms and roles play in daily life. I strongly believe that is my duty to speak up against discrimination and to utilize privilege to amplify the voices of those that are marginalized, and this reflects itself in my counselling work. Only as a unified community can we make changes, and with change comes growth. I specialize in queer and disabled experiences, with a focus on teen and young adult populations. I am a good match for clients who are comfortable exploring their past and current selves through a compassionate lens, as well as taking a collaborative and integrative approach at therapy to help develop the present and future you want. A session with me differs from client to client, as I strive to provide counselling that is tailored for each individual. I enjoy highlighting and utilizing individual strengths, and integrating comforts into our therapeutic work, with past experience allowing me to integrate different cultural and religious views, as well as music into sessions. Additionally, I utilize self-reflection, exploring attachment patterns, and the role of emotionality in day-to-day life. It would be my honor to help you reach your counselling goals, and to help arm you with the coping skills necessary to get there.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Bios - Ana Rossi - May 2026 Cohort</image:title>
<image:caption>Hi, I’m Ana Paula, and I’m honoured to be joining Couch of Hope as a counselling therapist intern. My path into counselling has been shaped by both my professional journey and my own experience of healing through therapy, which deeply influenced how I understand people, relationships, and change. I believe each person’s story is unique, and that we all have the capacity to feel more at home within ourselves. From a young age, I’ve had a genuine curiosity about people and their inner worlds. That curiosity led me to live in four different countries, shaping how I listen and relate with openness, cultural sensitivity, and respect for each person’s lived experience. I’m currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. Rather than working from a rigid framework, I value presence, curiosity, and a deep respect for how relationships, emotions, and past experiences shape who we are. Healing, to me, unfolds through connection — through feeling understood, supported, and met without judgment. Before entering the field, I spent many years working in communication and supporting individuals through moments of transition. More recently, my experience in clinical intake and client support has strengthened my ability to meet people with care, clarity, and attunement from the very first conversation. I aim to offer a space where we can slow things down, explore experiences with curiosity, and find ways of coping that feel authentic and supportive. I work in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family, being in nature, cooking, and engaging in creative spaces that invite reflection and connection. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your journey.</image:caption>

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Saint Mary’s University, which laid the foundation for my deep interest in human behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and the healing power of therapeutic relationships. Beginning my career in counselling is something I feel genuinely passionate about. I believe everyone deserves to feel grounded, capable, and at peace within themselves, even when life feels overwhelming or uncertain. Many people are navigating systems and circumstances that don’t always meet their needs, and I strive to offer a space where you feel supported, respected, and understood. At the heart of my work is a commitment to creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences at your own pace. I aim to meet you with empathy and curiosity, honour your story, and support you in building the insight, confidence, and skills needed to move toward the life you want. My name is Maya, and I am currently completing my practicum placement at Couch of Hope as part of my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University. I am excited for this opportunity and grateful to begin this next step in my counselling journey. I grew up in Canada, but I am Lebanese, and my cultural background has played a meaningful role in shaping the way I understand people, identity, and community. Navigating multiple cultural influences has given me a deep appreciation for diversity, as well as a strong commitment to creating a space that is inclusive, culturally sensitive, and respectful of each person’s lived experiences. Upon completion of my practicum, I hope to specialize in working with families and couples. I am particularly passionate about relational dynamics and how individual histories, perspectives, and patterns of communication shape relationships. I value creating space for all voices to be acknowledged and understood, with the goal of fostering connection, healing, and growth within relationships. I am currently working at completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree at Yorkville University. I previously completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Psychology from Crandall University. I have always enjoyed listening to people’s stories and walking with them through whatever journey they are on. I have previous experience teaching children with learning disabilities how to read. This experience broadened my perspective on how people take in and understand similar pieces of information. It also deepened my belief in the power of acceptance, encouragement, and non-judgemental compassionate support. My therapeutic approach is rooted in warmth, empathy, and grace. I strive to help each client feel heard, understood, and acknowledged. I believe in a holistic approach where I focus on looking at each person as a whole while considering each individual piece of what brings them together. In general, I have a humanistic approach to counselling. This includes using person-centred therapy paired with solution-focused therapy. I use other therapy approaches as well; however, these are the two that I reach for first. On this note, I believe that every client is different, and that each have their own unique needs. As such, I adapt my therapeutic style to fit each client respectively. Above all, I believe that individuals are their own experts in their lives. I am here to be a witness to them and help guide them when they may get stuck.</image:caption>

Completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University led me to the opportunity to support a wonderful community here in Halifax. Prior to pursuing this program, I received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and worked in an inpatient mental health setting for five years. During this time, I developed a strong passion for mental wellness, recovery, and promoting accessible care. In my work as a nurse, I cared for people from a diverse range of ages, cultures, races, and identities. No matter which walk of life you come from, I am eager to learn about the things that make you, you, and hope that together we can create new self-awareness and appreciation. My approach to counselling is strongly person-centred. From this foundation, I employ elements of Narrative and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I firmly believe that when we know and understand ourselves better, we innately move toward healing and self-improvement. Therefore, my goal is to create an environment in which you feel curious about yourself and comfortable with the vulnerability it takes to self-reflect. I aim to do so by listening actively, supporting and validating as you make sense of your experiences and their impact on your life. My areas of interest in counselling are in depression, anxiety, relationship and life stressors, challenges in intersectionality, and trauma, particularly complex PTSD. However, I welcome all who have reached out for support and work collaboratively to determine how I can best assist each client with their unique needs. It is my privilege to connect with you, my duty to listen, and my honour to help in any way I can.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Hi there, my name is Mike Richey (he/him). I am a counselling intern at Couch of Hope and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) student at Yorkville University. For the past 20 years, I have supported at-risk youth as they navigate trauma, addictions, mental health challenges, and identity exploration. These experiences have shaped both my personal and professional journey and inspired my transition to one-on-one therapeutic work with adolescents and adults. My approach is person-centered, built on safety, trust, and authenticity. I strive to create a space free of judgment where your perspectives, values, and lived experiences guide our work together. In my practice, I draw from narrative therapy, which emphasizes that you are not defined by your past and that your future is not predetermined. You have the power to write your own story. I also integrate solution-focused therapy (SFT) to help identify and build on strengths and resources you may not even realize you have. My focus areas include complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression, but I am here to support you with whatever challenges you may be facing. Life can be difficult, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. I’m here to listen and to walk alongside you every step of the way.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Hello! My name is Patricia Borja (she/her), and I am a counselling intern completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I am excited to be part of the Couch of Hope team and to support clients on their journeys toward healing and growth. My background as a Canadian Filipino and first-generation immigrant has shaped my understanding of how culture, family expectations, and stigma can affect mental health. Because of this, I am passionate about offering a safe, inclusive space for individuals who may not have always felt encouraged to seek support. For nearly eight years, I also worked in an assisted living retirement home, supporting residents living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and other life-altering conditions. This experience taught me the value of patience, presence, and empathy while working with individuals and families during some of their most vulnerable moments. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, collaborative, and rooted in empathy. I aim to offer diversity and inclusivity in my work, especially for communities where seeking support has often carried stigma or barriers. My areas of interest include supporting clients with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and family dynamics, while remaining flexible and open to addressing whatever concerns are most meaningful to you. My goal is to walk with you as you explore your feelings and cultivate balance and empowerment. Choosing to seek support is an act of courage, and I am committed to offering a space where you feel truly heard and understood.</image:caption>

My name is Youmna Saoud (she/her), I’m a Counselling Intern at Couch of H.O.P.E. and currently completing my graduate studies in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. My academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Publicity and Public Relations and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I also speak English, French, and Arabic, which allows me to connect with people in the language they feel most comfortable in. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic and attachment theories, with the belief that our early experiences and relationships shape the patterns we carry into our lives today. In our work together, we’ll gently explore these patterns and create space for new, more compassionate ways of relating. I also bring a trauma-informed lens and often integrate self-compassion practices and techniques to support emotional well-being, reduce shame, and build flexibility in facing life’s challenges. Alongside my counselling work, I volunteer as a crisis responder for children, and I’m also a parent, both roles that deepen my empathy and understanding of what it means to face struggles both big and small. Outside of work, I love sending time with my small family, practicing yoga, hiking and travelling, which keep me curious and open to new perspectives. Above all, I strive to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey!</image:caption>

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology form Mount Saint Vincent University and a diploma in Addictions Counselling from Nova Scotia Community College. Over the last 17 years I have been working in the mental health field, primarily in area of family support work. I have worked with families in their homes, I have facilitated parenting and anxiety programs, and have worked in the community, connecting folks to resources related to food, housing, and mental health. After working in mental health for many years, I recognized that many services had very specific goals or mandates. This led me to return to school to complete my Master of Social Work at Dalhousie University, as I want to be able to provide holistic care to my clients. In the counselling space, I value my client’s lived experience and work with my clients to identify their strengths that can support their wellbeing. I am interested in how being in nature impacts wellness and how spirituality and faith are incorporated into our ways of coping. I am flexible, person-centred, and believe we can work together to address your concerns. Outside of work, I am passionate about the outdoors and physical activity, I love hiking, biking, and running. I enjoy connecting with new people and hearing their stories. I look forward to hearing your story and supporting you.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Hey there! My name is Brittany, and I am incredibly honored to be a counselling therapist intern at Couch of Hope. I have a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Bachelor of Social Work from Dalhousie University. I am currently working towards a Master's degree in Social Work at Dalhousie. As someone in long term recovery, I am passionate about supporting individuals who are working to overcome challenges related to trauma, substance use, and mental health. My approach recognizes the resilience that exists within each person, even in the midst of pain. I strive to create a space that feels safe, nonjudgmental, and empowering — a place where clients can begin to rebuild trust, process their experiences, and explore new ways of coping. Most of my professional experience has involved working with children, women with disabilities, and the Women of the Métis Nation, as well as women and girls who have experienced sex trafficking and the sex trade. My work is grounded in the belief that healing is possible, even after experiences of trauma, loss, or addiction. I understand that each person’s path toward wellness is deeply personal, and my role is to offer compassion, understanding, and guidance along the way. My practice emphasizes empowerment, emotional safety, and connection, and my goal is to offer a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported exactly as you are. As an emerging therapist, I believe healing happens through authentic connection and self-understanding. My goal is to walk alongside clients as they build resilience, reclaim their stories, and move toward meaningful change in their lives. Outside of my work, you’ll often find me reading, working out, getting tattooed, exploring nature, or finding humor in everyday life. I look forward to meeting you, and I am excited for the opportunity to walk alongside you on this journey.</image:caption>
