Marina Cummiskey

September 2026 Cohort

My name is Marina Cummiskey (she/her), and I am grateful to join Couch of HOPE as a counselling intern in completion of my Master of Education in Counselling from the University of New Brunswick.

I was born and raised on the traditional homelands of the Alutiiq peoples now known as Kodiak, Alaska, and have been privileged to live and work in many beautiful and diverse places since. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology and kinesiology in Vancouver, BC, and a master’s in sport psychology in Montréal, QC. I have experience working in youth and newcomer support within Canada, as well as international work experience in humanitarian contexts. The growth and perspective I have appreciated along the way is integrally woven into my approach to counselling and understanding of what it means to be human.

My therapeutic support is rooted in relational, culturally humble, and trauma-informed practices, tailored to each person’s unique goals and needs. In practice, I strive to offer a safe and compassionate space in which you may feel free to share, explore, and grow as feels right for you. Theoretical approaches I am drawn to include person-centered, narrative, nature-based, and acceptance and commitment therapies.

I deeply believe in the power of genuine connection, and would be honoured to walk alongside you on your journey.
