Mohamed Hussein

September 2026 Cohort

Hello!

My name is Mohamed Hussein, and I am excited and honoured to be joining the Couch of Hope team as a Counselling Therapist Intern in September 2026. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology (Hons) at Saint Mary’s University and am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University.

I am a Canadian-born individual of Palestinian heritage with dual Jordanian citizenship. I spent much of my childhood and adolescence living in the UAE. These experiences have deeply shaped my appreciation for diverse cultural perspectives, migration journeys, family dynamics, and how culture influences mental health and emotional expression. Being fluent in both English and Arabic allows me to connect more authentically with clients and helps reduce barriers in therapy.

My passion for supporting others developed through hands-on work in Halifax. As a Child and Youth Care Worker and Community Inclusion Facilitator, I supported youth and adults with complex needs by providing emotional support, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and individualized goal planning. These roles have strengthened my calm, relational, and trauma-informed approach. I am especially drawn towards a person-centered approach, as I believe creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel truly heard and valued is the heart of meaningful therapeutic work.

I am also drawn to Couch of Hope’s mission of offering free, accessible counselling to Nova Scotians facing financial, insurance, or waitlist barriers. As a male counsellor in a female-dominated field, I am committed to helping address gaps in inclusive and culturally responsive care. I look forward to growing under supportive supervision while contributing to a team that makes quality mental health support available to more people in our community.
