Samantha Northcut

September 2026 Cohort

Hello! My name is Samantha Northcut (she/her). I am a Counselling Therapist Intern currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and English from the University of Ottawa, where I found a strong passion for mental health resources, the importance of accessibility, and the power of language in shaping our experiences. I have had the opportunity to work in both Ontario and Nova Scotia with primarily adolescents and young adults across a range of settings, including crisis environments where I supported individuals navigating trauma, mental illness, and high-stress situations. These experiences have deeply shaped my appreciation for the complexity of people’s stories and the resilience it takes to move through difficult moments.

My approach to counselling is grounded in person-centred, humanistic, and holistic principles. I tend to work from a strengths-based perspective, believing that each person holds valuable insight and capacity for growth within themselves. At the same time, I recognize that taking the step to seek counselling is significant and can feel vulnerable. Because of this, I do my best to meet each person with empathy, openness, and genuine curiosity to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and understood.

I am committed to practicing cultural humility, recognizing that every individual’s identity, background, and lived experience shapes how they move through the world. I strive to remain reflective and responsive in my work, honouring what matters most to you and ensuring that our work together feels collaborative and meaningful. It is a privilege to be invited into people’s lives in this way, and I am here to support you as you explore your experiences, deepen your self-understanding, and move toward the changes that feel important to you.
